Fewer than one in five Americans can identify even one stroke symptom. Stroke, or brain attack, is the leading cause of adult disability and the third leading cause of death in America. Recognizing when stroke is occurring and reacting fast to get treatment can save lives. If you understand the warning signs of stroke and get to the hospital quickly, it is possible to even possibly reverse the stroke itself, says Dr. Dawn Kleindorfer, assistant professor of neurology at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. In a recent poll conducted by National Stroke Association, one-third of men could not recognize even one stroke symptom. That is not good news for men, or the women in their lives, who are uniquely impacted by stroke. National Stroke Association s Women in Your Life campaign is working to change these statistics by educating Americans about stroke prevention and recognizing stroke...

Breathing is something that is vital to life. It is something we all do and need to do constantly to enable us to live. If you are not doing it now then I m sorry but you cannot continue to read this, as you are dead. This article is not about breathing though; it is about what we breathe. Yep, but let us, for a minute, think about what may be in the air we breathe. Apart from the components of air such as oxygen, which is the bit we need, the air you breathe is full of other particles and you need to think about an air purifier to filter these potentially harmful particles out of the air or in other words purify the air. I am sure you have seen sunlight coming through you windows and when you are at a certain angle you have seen dust particles floating in the air. You breathe these in unless you can use an air purifier to remove them or hopefully most of them. Its not only dust though, people and...

Immune System Overloaded By Dental Infection, Trauma - Injury

Those people with root canal fillings are generally found to have a healing rate slower than expected. Quite often, the extra stress an injury places on their defense systems allows the organisms to get out of hand and attack some other organ or tissues. We all know of individuals who get over one illness only to develop another. This can, of course, happen when no dental infections or root canals are present because of poor nutrition, anxiety, alcohol and drug use, and a whole variety or combination of other stresses with which humans must cope. The more stress involved, the more the immune system is taxed to keep the person alive and functioning. When the body is continually subjected to irritation in any one or a number of its tissues and parts, these areas often become sick. Price s story of the man who came to America by ship in steerage from the Philippines to San Francisco and from there by...

In previous articles we covered what ADD is and how to diagnose it. In this third instalment we re going to begin a series on how to treat ADD. ADD can actually be battled from many directions. There are drugs, behavior modification, nutrition, exercise, and a number of other things that can be done to combat ADD in both children and adults. In this article we are going to choose the natural route first and discuss proper nutrition which can have a huge effect on the behavior of someone suffering from ADD. One of the main contributing factors to children who suffer from ADD is when their blood sugar level, or glucose level becomes too low. This causes them to become sleepy in class and then ultimately restless because they are bored. Glucose is extremely important in determining a child s attention span. This may sound clich d but the most important meal of the day is breakfast and glucose should be a...

Trying to trace the history of the first pizza is a surprisingly controversial subject. Some claim that this popular food is based on early unleavened breads served in the early centuries in Rome. Others trace a connection from modern pizza back to the pita breads of Greece. It s fairly well established that the first pizza as we know it today was created by a man named Raffaele Esposito from Naples, Italy. Esposito s creation was designed to honor the visit of Queen Margherita to Naples in 1889, and he decorated it with the colors of the Italian flag, using white cheese, green basil, and red tomatoes tomatoes, which had arrived from the west about 60 years earlier, were originally thought to be poisonous, but by Esposito s time they were already embraced by Italian cuisine . As the years passed and the turn of the century came about, Italian immigrants brought this recipe with them to America. The...
